K5 Program

K5 Program

Kindergarten at Jo’s Learning Academy provides students with an opportunity to further develop their academic and social skills.  Our dynamic classroom teacher provides a variety of research-supported activities across developmental domains.  In our K5 program, you will find:

  • Classrooms staffed by dynamic and experienced DPI-certified teachers who are supported by experienced teaching assistants
  • Strong and effective oversight by program’s Executive Director and leadership team
  • Ongoing professional development, curriculum support and in-classroom mentoring for Jo’s teachers through a partnership with Cardinal Stritch University.
  • Low teacher/child ratios – 20:2
  • A state-of the art facility which has been furnished to meet the developmental needs of early elementary children
  • Access to current technology, including personal computers and tablets to reinforce early literacy, math and language skills
  • Opportunities to learn in an outdoor classroom space with a flower and vegetable garden
  • Weekly music education programming provided by the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music
  • Science and environmental education provided in partnership with Milwaukee’s Urban Ecology Center at Washington Park.
  • Spanish language within the daily curriculum
  • Ongoing support from the Milwaukee Public Library (BRANCH NAME)
  • Educational field trips to locations such as the Milwaukee Public Museum and the Milwaukee County Zoo
  • Nutritious and healthy meals prepared in a state-of-the-art kitchen
  • Collaboration with parents and families, including monthly parent outreach meetings
  • Before and After-care and Summer program options

11:30-12          Lunch

12-12:30          Writing

12:30-1:30       Math

1:30-2              Enrichment (Social Studies, Science, Writing, and Art)

2:30-3              Snack

3-3:30              Intervention (small groups)

3:30-5              Table Toys / After-care program

About Our Curriculum:

Our K-5 curriculum is guided by the Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards (WMELS) and the Common Core State Standards (CCSS).  Samples of our curriculum and standards are found below:




Social Studies


  • Arts integration that builds off of language and literacy instruction
  • Students are supported through an innovative course which utilizes an arts integration approach to early language, literacy and child development.


  • Currently supported through a collaboration with The Wisconsin Conservatory of Music.
